The bloody, frantic shooter was up against Overwatch, Battlefield 1, Gears of War 4, and Titanfall 2. It was praised by critics upon release due to its incredibly strong story mode which took players on a journey to rip apart demons and spill buckets of blood through the fiery depths of hell.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Conan O&#039;Brien Presents The Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2016\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KsfK0jDwwT8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Developed by Id software, the original creators of the series, it harkened back to the first two entries in the Doom franchise, relying heavily on strafing and gore.
