The Far Cry series has been one of Ubisoft’s longest running franchises, offering players tight first-person shooter action, sprawling open worlds teeming with missions to complete and bad guys to gun down, and an absolute bucket-load of weapons. Whether you want to go the silent, stealthy route, or make lots of big, big bangs, any and all approaches are welcome as you fight off against the series’ notorious villains. Alas, like lots of things in life, not all Far Cry games were created equal. Some are great, standing the test of time over a decade later, while others… well, they’re better off just being forgotten. After spending dozens upon dozens of hours with the series at this point, we’ve put together our definitive ranking of the best Far Cry games from worst to first.

9. Far Cry

Credit to the first game in the Far Cry series for kicking things off, but after what came before it, it may not entirely stand the test of time. Considering when it was released, the original Far Cry looks pretty great and it sold the jungle environment very well. The enemy AI is mostly intelligent, and the weapons have a good balance between them.

One of the new fighters to join the roster of the recently released Injustice 2 will be the Red Hood. Originally a Robin under the name Jason Todd, he was later killed by the Joker during his short run as a Boy Wonder and later brought back to life. The subsequent resurrection had him become the vigilante known as the Red Hood, and he’s…kinda off and on with the Batfamily, put it that way. And going by this trailer, he’s certainly doing the “off” part at the moment.

Lucio Correia dos Santos is one of the big characters of Overwatch, a Brazilian DJ turned freedom fighter. For the game’s Anniversary event, he got a new outfit that has him looking like the futuristic equivalent to Bruno Mars, along with a dancing emote that’s actually pretty dang cool. So of course, the only natural thing to do is to dance in the middle of the game.

Not like before the match starts, as most players do when they aren’t adding sprays or shooting everything in sight–I mean during the actual middle of the game, with players moving all around him and bullets flying. And to make things better, someone set Lucio’s dancing to “Mr. Blue Skies” by Electric Light Orchestra as a callback to the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

In 2011, Ignition Tokyo released El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, an action game led by Takeyasu Sawaki, design lead on the original Devil May Cry and Okami. Now, the game is getting a second shot at life with The Last Child, a spinoff that shifts the series (if you can call it that) from action to turn-based RPG.

Last week, Traveler’s Trales and WB Games announced that Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 was in development, and now they’ve gone and released a trailer. And it’s…honestly, it’s just really cute and adorable, which is what you want out of a game based on popular superheroes and little toys.

Last week, Ubisoft semi-announced Far Cry 5, the entry in their long running open world series. With E3 in a few weeks, the time for teases and full reveals is now, which is why they’ve gone ahead and put out a trailer for the game. It’s short, but we at least know where we’re going: Hope County, Montana, a seemingly idyllic place to live. But given the gunshots, screaming, and man running away, it’s clear that it’s anything but. This’ll be the first time in the series where we’ve been taken to the US, and it’s sure to make for some interesting gameplay changes.

The Uncharted movie has found its Nathan Drake, and it is none other than Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Tom Holland. The young actor, who first made his appearance as the web-slinger in last year’s Captain America: Civil War has now signed on to play the young version of the titular hero to Naughty Dog’s action adventure franchise.

The film, according to Deadline, has apparently been redrafted into a prequel wherein we’ll see the young Nathan Drake grow into the treasure hunter that we know and (mostly) love. Influences for the film are said to be the flashback sequences of Uncharted 3 where a teenage Drake first met up with Sully, and well…the rest is history. In addition to Spider-Man (which swings into theaters on July 7), Tom Holland would also return as the wallcrawler for next year’s Avengers: Infinity War, and will be in another film this year called The Current War. No other stars have been attached to the film as of yet.

If there was one problem with the original Destiny, it’s that there was no real clan support that came from the developers. Fortunately, that’s not the case with Destiny 2, as Bungie has revealed that they’re going to support it in the game officially. Social lead M.E. Chung announced that every member in said clan will get shared in-game rewards. No matter your contribution to the clan, all of it will lead towards all the members receiving rewards, because cooperation is awesome.

For the solo players, there’s Guided Games. When you boot up Destiny 2, you’ll be able to meet with a clan to fill in a vacant spot and help them take on Raids, Strikes, or Nightfalls. Depending on what a clan is all about, you can accept or decline their invitation (or they can do the same to you), and they’re now the foundation of the overall community of the series. Chung knows that “there’s a community for everyone,” and hopes that this’ll help all players find where they belong. It’s a series that brings people together, and Bungie wants to lean into that as much as possible.

During the Destiny 2 livestream today, Bungie gave us our first real look at our principal antagonist for the game: Dominus Gaul, the leader of the Cabal group known as the Red Legion. The Red Legion and Gaul were taught upon birth that they were the ones worthy of receiving the Traveler’s Light. As such, they’ve trained their whole lives in the hopes of appeasing it. But then, a funny thing happened: humanity got the Light instead of them.

This has pissed off the Red Legion and Gaul, and by the start of Destiny 2, he’s decided that the only way to prove himself worthy of the Light is to take yours away and attack the Last City. As director Luke Smith describes him, he’s like Hans Gruber from Die Hard, “minus the Britishness.” He thinks that there needs to be a better class of Guardian, one that you’re not really up to snuff to do. Luckily, you’ll be able to prove him wrong, and also shoot him and his forces in their dumb, stupid faces.

Return of Multiplayer

No one would think that a series that revolves mainly around stealth would make for a good multiplayer title. Parkour aside, it didn’t seem like Assassin’s Creed was up to the task, but 2010’s Brotherhood sure proved us otherwise. It made the right move in playing into the paranoia that comes with the territory of a stealth game and flipped it on players, and there’s still nothing like attacking an NPC that could be a fellow player and paying for striking at the wrong time.

Square Enix has been hard at work on Final Fantasy XIV’s upcoming Stormblood expansion. And while playing through it is guaranteed to be a fun time, the new music is also sure to be a highlight. Thankfully, the main theme for the expansion, titled “Revelations,” has been released. If you’re a fan of the series’ soundtrack and main themes, you won’t be disappointed here.

After teasing Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 earlier today, more details on the superhero brick game have eked out. This time around, instead of dealing with a whole league of evil baddies, our heroes will be going up against Kang the Conqueror, a powerful time traveler. Kang’s mishaps will take players across time, from ancient Egypt to the future and everything in between, including other realities. (That’s kind of a thing in the Marvel history.)

The full character list for Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 hasn’t been revealed, obviously, but Spider-Gwen and Cowboy Captain America will join the fray, along with Spider-Man 2099 and Gladiator Hulk. Doctor Strange and Baby Groot will be a part of the cast, and it’s a safe assumption that any high profile MCU characters such as Vision or Black Panther will be around for this new adventure. A four player co-op mode is also going to be included that’ll have players competing against one another, though no other details were revealed.

Late last week, it was revealed that the creators of Gitaroo Man and Parappa the Rapper were joining forces on a new game currently titled Project Rap Rabbit. Today, they’ve unveiled their Kickstarter campaign for the game, and all the details that come with it. If the game reaches its stretch goal of $1,102,921, then it’ll get funded and reach the goal of having six levels, simple as that. But then you look at the other stretch goals for the game, and *whistle*, that is some scratch they’re aiming for. Check it out below.

The epic superhero fight fest that is Injustice 2 finally arrives tomorrow, pitting DC heroes against one another yet again in a fight for the fate of all humanity. When the evil alien supercomputer/robot Brainiac comes knocking on Earth’s doorstep, everyone’s unsure if it would be wise to let Superman out to help deal with him. And instead of having a reasonable discussion about this, the various characters of the story campaign decide to best hash this out by beating the everloving crap out of each other, as the launch trailer shows us. (And they say debate is dead.)

After releasing on PC late last year, Devolver Digital and Flying Wild Hog have announced that Shadow Warrior 2 will finally be making its way to consoles. The sequel to the 2013 reboot will be arriving on consoles next Friday, the 19th. For those unawares, the game takes place five years after the events of the original–the reboot, that is–and saw Lo Wang once again battling evil demons sent to invade the planet Earth.

Remember the 2010 game Deadly Premonition? Super weird game from a nice guy by the name of Swery? Some diehard fans of the title have decided to turn it into a board game, and they announced a Kickstarter for it earlier today. But this isn’t just a simple board game that has the game’s branding on it, it’s one that takes complete advantage of the game’s concept and adapts it for a tabletop format. To wit, you’re a detective assigned to investigate six townsfolk and find evidence that can either prove their innocence or find out with player is the killer by finding information from the suspects. Each player will be randomly given their own suspects, and you can sabotage fellow players, if you so wish. (They’re totally gonna do that to you.)

At time of writing, the Deadly Premonition board game–which has been approved by Swery himself–has reached $11, 186 of its $50k goal. The period to pledge ends next month on June 8, with pledge rewards ranging from digital copies of the game’s Director’s Cut to with the highest tier including both the board game and PC game, plus the inclusion of the soundtrack, carry bag, dice, and a mug. Go forth and pledge! You know you want to.

The wait time for NetherRealm’s Injustice 2 is getting shorter with each passing day, and fans are ready to step into the DC Universe yet again to punch each other into submission. Ed Boon and company have been hard at work building up their reputation since being bought by Warner Bros. in 2009, and it may be time for them to do something that could be considered a challenge. And what could be more of a challenge than rebooting Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe? Longtime Mortal Kombat fans had to go through several mediocre titles before NetherRealm released the excellent 2011 reboot. MK vs. DC was the last game in the series developed by Midway before their closure (along with just being their last game, period) and saw the two universes collide and its various characters subsequently punch each other into hamburger meat.

Now, admittedly yes, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who says that MK vs. DC would be their favorite Mortal Kombat title–for many, it may probably just barely make the top five–and it’s doubtful that age will have made it better. (Even if it was what ultimately led to the studio handling Injustice five years later.) But a big part of the problem was that it was something that had the scent of desperation wafting over it, what with it existing in the hopes of drawing in DC fans who’ve always wondered if a ninja with a flaming skull would be able to go toe to toe with Batman. (The answer to that, by the way, is “yes.”)

Volition’s Agents of Mayhem is only three months away, and more information about the game is eking out. The spinoff title to the Saints Row series will see players take on the role of a dozen “heroes”–read, psychotic and stupid mercs for hire–as they fight the evil forces of LEGION in Seoul, South Korea. The new trailer goes into a trio of characters–Hollywood, Hardtack, and Fortune–you’ll be playing as who’ve personally dubbed themselves the Franchise Force.
